A peaceful stay in Daejeon’s Yuseong district

When people think of South Korea, they usually picture sleek city hotels or traditional hanok stays.

During my recent trip to Daejeon, however, I discovered something completely unexpected—a Japanese-inspired hotel with tatami-style interiors, a soaking bathtub, and a relaxing tea corner.

Even better, I booked it for less than $60 USD by choosing the hotel’s late check-in option.

If you’re looking for a unique place to stay in Daejeon without spending too much, this hotel is definitely worth considering.

Why I Stayed Here

.

This wasn’t a luxury vacation.

After finishing my schedule in nearby Cheongju, I simply needed a comfortable place to rest before heading out early the next morning.

While searching online, I came across Mitasuya Ryokan Hotel by AANK.

The Japanese-inspired design immediately caught my attention, and since I knew I’d arrive late anyway, the discounted late check-in package made the decision even easier.

For travelers who don’t plan to spend much time in the hotel, it’s a fantastic value.

My First Impression

The moment I opened the room door, I noticed the warm wooden interior.

Instead of a standard business hotel, the room felt calm and cozy, with low furniture, soft lighting, and a small tea table that created a relaxing atmosphere.

It isn’t a traditional Japanese ryokan, but it definitely captures that peaceful feeling.

Sometimes it’s the little details that make a stay memorable.

Everything I Needed Was Included

Even though I booked the most basic room, it came with everything I wanted for a comfortable night.

  • Queen-size bed
  • Large TV
  • Bathtub
  • Neck-support pillow
  • Tea set
  • Mini refrigerator
  • Kettle
  • Toiletries

I never felt like I needed to upgrade to a more expensive room.

The Best Surprise? The Neck Pillow

One thing I absolutely didn’t expect was the pillow.

I usually travel with my own orthopedic pillow because I often have neck pain.

This time I forgot to bring it.

Fortunately, the hotel provided a supportive neck pillow that turned out to be surprisingly comfortable.

It may seem like a small detail, but after a long drive, it made a huge difference.

A Warm Bath After a Long Day

After spending the day traveling between cities, soaking in the bathtub was exactly what I needed.

Having a bathtub in an affordable room felt like a luxury, and it was the perfect way to unwind before bed.

If you enjoy ending your day with a relaxing bath, you’ll probably appreciate this room as much as I did.

Convenient Self-Service Amenities

One feature I really liked was the self-service amenity station located in the hallway.

Guests could freely take extra towels, bottled water, cups, chargers, and other necessities without calling the front desk.

Simple ideas like this make the whole stay much more convenient.

Should You Book the Late Check-in Deal?

Absolutely—if your schedule allows it.

Since my friend and I planned to have dinner before arriving, checking in at 8 PM wasn’t a problem at all.

In return, we paid significantly less than the regular room rate.

If you’re only looking for a comfortable place to sleep before continuing your trip, it’s one of the easiest ways to save money.

Is It Worth Staying?

Although the building appears to be a renovated hotel rather than a brand-new property, the room was clean, quiet, and comfortable.

For travelers who value atmosphere, convenience, and affordability over luxury, I think this hotel offers excellent value.

If you’re planning a romantic getaway or a special occasion, you might prefer one of the premium Hinoki rooms.

But for a one-night stay like mine, the standard room was more than enough.

My Final Thoughts

One thing I enjoy most while traveling is discovering places that feel different from ordinary hotels.

Mitasuya Ryokan Hotel gave me a small taste of Japan while staying in South Korea, and that’s exactly what made the experience memorable.

If you’re planning a trip to Daejeon and want something unique without spending too much, I’d happily recommend giving this place a try.
