If you’re looking for a peaceful café in Gyeongju, away from the busy tourist attractions, Nokyeong Bocharapa is a wonderful place to visit.

During our two-day trip to Gyeongju, this was the very first place we stopped after lunch. Instead of rushing into sightseeing, we wanted to slow down and enjoy a relaxing afternoon—and this café turned out to be the perfect choice.

With its beautiful traditional Korean hanok architecture, spacious interior, and quiet atmosphere, it quickly became one of my favorite cafés in Gyeongju.

A Beautiful Traditional Hanok Café

The first thing that caught my attention was the impressive wooden hanok building.

The café features high wooden ceilings, open spaces, and traditional Korean architecture blended with a modern café design.

Natural light fills the interior, making it a wonderful place for photography and a relaxing coffee break.

Every corner feels thoughtfully designed, creating a peaceful atmosphere that’s quite different from the crowded cafés in downtown Gyeongju.

The Outdoor Wooden Deck Was My Favorite Spot

One of the best parts of this café was the traditional wooden deck outside.

Even though we visited during the summer, sitting on the shaded wooden floor with a gentle breeze made it surprisingly comfortable.

Many visitors were simply sitting, chatting, or lying down while enjoying the peaceful surroundings.

Instead of just grabbing a quick coffee, this is the kind of café where you’ll want to spend an hour or two simply relax

Signature Drinks and Traditional Desserts

Nokyeong Bocharapa offers several signature drinks inspired by Korean flavors.

Popular menu items include:

  • Rice Makgeolli Einspänner
  • Injeolmi Einspänner
  • Mugwort Yulmu Latte

They also serve classic coffee drinks, traditional Korean tea, and a variety of desserts.

One thing I especially liked was the selection of freshly made Korean rice cakes and baked goods.

There were black sesame rice cakes, glutinous rice cakes, banana rice cakes, croissants, cinnamon rolls, and muffins—perfect if you’d like a light snack with your coffee.

What We Ordered

We ordered:

  • Café Latte
  • Mugwort Tea
  • Cherry Ade

The café latte was smooth and creamy, while the mugwort tea had a subtle herbal aroma that matched the traditional atmosphere perfectly.

The cherry ade was refreshing and slightly sweet, making it an excellent choice on a warm summer afternoon.

More than the drinks themselves, what made this visit memorable was the peaceful setting.

Final Thoughts

Nokyeong Bocharapa is much more than a coffee shop.

It’s a place where you can experience traditional Korean architecture, enjoy local desserts, and take a break from sightseeing.

If you’re planning a trip to Gyeongju and searching for a quiet hanok café, I highly recommend adding this place to your itinerary.

It’s especially perfect for travelers who want to slow down and enjoy a different side of Korea beyond the famous tourist attractions.
